BEGINNER BALLET: A CLASS FOR BEGINNERS AND ADULTS RETURNING TO BALLETOver and over again, I hear adult dancers tell me how great it is to get "back to ballet." Often, they danced as children, teenagers, some into college and adulthood. And then they stopped at some point because life "got in the way." This class is for anyone ready to reawaken their love of dance and return to ballet in a joyful, friendly, noncompetitive environment. We dance for the love of dance, and you will be amazed at what you can still do...and how quickly it all comes back. We do a traditional barre, then move to the center for adagio, turns, petit allegro, grand allegro, and other center floor choreography. Come re-build strength, tone and flexibility with us as you rediscover the joy and beauty of ballet.Saturdays, 10:15am - 11:30amThe Dance Studio at BSP (upstairs)in Kingston's Stockade District323 Wall Street, Kingston, NYPricing:Drop in: $15.00*5-class card: $65.00 (good for up to 3 months from date of purchase)
INTRO TO BALLET FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS~ ON HIATUS ~These adult classes provide a welcoming, friendly environment for anyone new to ballet, introducing you to the fundamentals of technique, movement, expression and carriage in a comfortable class setting. You will learn the classical body positions and barre exercises; proper alignment, centering and posture; the fundamental movements that form the basis of all ballet; and an introduction to the language of ballet.
Whether you took ballet years ago or have never done a single step, this level is right for you! It's also great for experienced dancers who want to revisit their fundamentals, hone their technique, and un-do bad habits. And it's a phenomenal workout!
Absolutely no previous experience is needed. Men and women...boys and girls...all are welcome, ages 8 - 88 (and beyond!). Ballet attire is fine but not required.ADULT BEGINNER BALLET: For students with some ballet experience (usually at least one year). We do a full barre and some center work, with the focus on correct placement, alignment, and initiation of movement. This work also builds strength and muscle tone throughout the body--from strengthening all the muscles in your feet (great for everyday movement too!), through your legs, thighs, booty, abs, lower back, upper back, and arms!
And we take time to explore the artistic side of dance too--to breathe with the music, tune in to tempo and accents in the music, and let our bodies move with it. My students say they can definitely feel a difference in how they stand, walk and move through everyday activities. I do believe they walk out of class about an inch taller! :-)
Dance attire or any kind of workout gear is fine. Ballet slippers are recommended but socks are fine too.
